EDGE West, located at Basisweg 10 in Amsterdam, has recently achieved WELL Platinum status in addition to its BREEAM Outstanding certification. The accreditation underscores the commitment of fund and asset manager HIH, acting on behalf of the ultimate owner Hana Alternative Asset Management (Seoul, South Korea), property manager Savills, and developer EDGE Technologies to fostering and maintaining an environment that enhances the wellbeing and health of its occupiers.
The WELL certification evaluates buildings on several key factors, including air and water quality, light, nutrition, movement, mental health, and biophilic design. The property notably excelled in the categories of air quality, nutrition, and movement, due in part to its distinctive and well-designed octagonal dome with the integration of smart ventilation systems allowing for efficient and sustainable airflow throughout the building.
The building is distinguished by its large glass dome, the second largest in Europe, and the Atrium, which serves as a meeting place and green oasis for users and visitors. Furthermore, the energy demand of the building is expected to remain below the compliance thresholds of the Paris Agreement, contributed to by the integration of advanced technology, more than 6,000 sq m of solar panels, and underground thermal energy storage.
The redevelopment of EDGE West, completed in 2021, has transformed the building into a future-proof location while preserving its original architecture. The extensive investments in sustainability, technology, and well-being make it a particularly attractive location. With a total area of ca. 60,000 sq m, EDGE West currently houses companies such as Alliander N.V., APG Groep N.V., Stichting Pensioenfonds ABP, Intertrust Netherlands B.V., and Athora Netherlands.
