Moving to Monaco Post Brext

Moving to Monaco post Brexit

We are seeing a lot of interest in Monaco from residents of the UK at present: as part of the Savills global network, we traditionally do see significant interest from the UK, but this year that interest is heightened. Possibly due to fear of tax changes being brought in at some point to cope with the effects of the pandemic, and possibly also as a result of the positive media portray of life in Monaco during the last year.

Whatever the reasons, we are seeing a rise in requests for information on relocating here: people may not yet be able to travel very easily here, but we are definitely seeing an increase in enquiries for both rentals and purchases. Many are interested in renting for an initial period, to test the waters, but with a view to buying: the stability of the market here in 2020 despite lockdown, has been noticed, with official figures showing only a very slight decrease in the average price per m² last year: a safe place to invest whatever the world throws at you. We are also seeing interest in our serviced apartments in the Columbus – fully furnished, renovated a year or so ago, they are a great solution for people wanting to move here in the most hassle-free manner.

For residents of the UK re-locating to Monaco, the process for obtaining residence now involves applying for a long stay visa from the French authorities, prior to making the residence card application locally. Only once this visa is obtained can the applicant apply to the Monaco police for an interview at which all the usual documents are lodged. This obviously will make the whole process somewhat longer- we are not yet sure how much longer but will be monitoring this.

Otherwise, the renting or buying process here is as before. We are happy to advise on all aspects of both!
