As temperatures start to rise, our gardens begin their annual transformation into blooming buds of blossom and colourful beds of tulips and daffodils. What better place to entertain the children (and adults) in your life with an Easter egg hunt?
The annual Easter egg hunt is a custom dating back many centuries and a tradition that many families hold dear. A sweeping garden filled with enchanting hiding spots, nooks and crannies adds to the magic of the occasion.
The origins of this tradition are believed to date back to 16th century Germany when Protestant reformer Martin Luther organised egg hunts for his congregation.
Linked to the Easter Bunny (or Easter Hare as it was then known) the custom gradually spread further afield – with the future Queen Victoria enjoying egg hunts at Kensington Palace organised by her mother, the German-born Duchess of Kent.
Combine a good-sized garden with clement weather and a generous supply of eggs and you have the perfect recipe for an Easter egg hunt.
Take a look at our gallery of properties that could offer the perfect hiding place, including three whose names truly embrace the theme.
With daylight hours getting longer, it feels like spring is finally upon us.
