St Paul’s Cathedral, Mansion House, the Monument, and the Gherkin, to name just a few more, all rub shoulders on the streets of London’s Square Mile.
The area is brimming with historical sights and modern developments. And although you’ll find many of the UK’s financial services and trading establishments here, there are creative industries, retail, hospitality, endless dining spots and plenty of other businesses too.
A luxury home in the sky
One more recent addition to the London skyline is One Bishopsgate Plaza, the first tower development in the City of London to offer branded residences. Rising from the 21st to the 41st floor, The Sky Residences fuse luxurious private living with the five-star amenities of the world-renowned Pan Pacific hotel. Many of the 160 Sky Residences look out over panoramic views of the Gherkin, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s, Canary Wharf and beyond.
The appeal of branded residences
Branded residences have been around for almost a century and the concept has stood the test of time in cities and resorts across the world. As a primary home or pied-à-terre, the reassuring quality, impeccable service and standards associated with a trusted brand is a winning combination for which ultra high net worth buyers are often willing to pay a premium.
Convenience is key. At the Sky Residences, for example, the hotel is effectively an extension of home – all the amenities are there on tap for its residents; from concierge and housekeeping to fitness, wellbeing and pampering. Don’t fancy cooking? Order in from 24-hour room service, or head downstairs to the hotel’s all-day restaurant. If you’re away, hotel staff can water your plants, clean your apartment, forward your mail, and stock your fridge for your return. The list goes on.
Dining out in the City
While for many years the City of London has been all about business, there is now so much more on offer when it comes to pleasure.
With so many people working in one place, there is a fabulous array of dining options to suit all palates and the area becomes alive at the weekend once the city workers leave.
Just behind One Bishopsgate Plaza you’ll find Duck & Waffle serving modern European cuisine 24/7 on the 40th floor of Salesforce Tower. On the floor below, SUSHISAMBA serves up cocktails and Japanese-Peruvian-Brazilian fusion with equally stunning views. The Gherkin, meanwhile, has its own restaurant, Searcys at The Gherkin: a great spot for afternoon tea.
There’s Galvin La Chapelle, the Michelin-starred French dining spot, and if you are after a quick bite a huge number of household names are on hand locally, including The Ivy, Burger and Lobster, Gunpowder, Shiok!, or Eataly.
With history, fabulous architecture, a world of flavour and excellent connectivity to central London and international travel hubs, for a small neighbourhood London’s Square Mile packs a powerfully persuasive punch.
