Why London has it all for the world’s discerning buyers

London has it all. It’s a city festooned in history; a city not stuck in the past.

Certainly, the high net worth individuals who choose to make the prestigious postcodes of the capital their home, whether permanently or as a pied-à terre, make no secret of why they value a London address and all that comes with living in our great city.

Culture calling

Culture, heritage, iconic buildings, world-class schools and beautiful green spaces, not to mention a pick of the top brands, fashionable restaurants and an array of luxurious, state-of-the-art apartments, result in a prime central London package that’s enduringly hard to beat.

Taking the £10m-plus market here as a whole, transactions were up by 9% in Q3 compared to the same period last year, and up 100% on 2019, with buyers from far and wide including the UK, northern Europe, South East Asia and the US.

London’s desirable residential neighbourhoods are well known around the world. Here’s a look at just three of them.

Mayfair continues to weave its magic

In Mayfair, one of London’s oldest villages and home to some of London’s finest architecture, properties at the best addresses are going for record prices per square foot – Grosvenor Square, Mount Street and Charles Street still captivate buyers, with demand from across the globe.

There’s been a residential renaissance in recent times with the arrival of some landmark new developments such as 60 Curzon, an Art Deco-inspired building with lateral apartments arranged around a central courtyard, and the magnificent 1 Grosvenor Square where residents can enjoy the benefits of an entire lifestyle floor dedicated to world-class amenities.

Looking ahead, Phones 4u founder, John Caudwell, is building what is set to be the world’s most expensive residential-only scheme here. 1 Mayfair will attract the world’s elite when these stunning residences go on sale.

Belgravia’s beau monde

Belgravia, with its grand white stucco-fronted buildings and garden squares, is one of the capital’s most historic districts. It has been an exclusive address since the 19th century but in the last 20 years or so has been reimagined through significant improvements in the streetscape, public realm and amenities available to those who reside here.

Weaving seamlessly into the fabric of Belgravia is Chelsea Barracks, a highly prestigious new development set around seven garden squares, extraordinary amenities including an indoor championship tennis court and master-planned landscapes.

This is now an area focused on vibrancy and inclusion, an appealing and sought-after community where you can indulge in designer retail therapy and stop for a bite or a coffee on the beautifully curated doorstep.

Classic Kensington

Whether you’re an avid follower of London’s cultural offering or a fan of the classic children’s character Peter Pan, Kensington is a name to conjure with.

Residents here have easy access to two of the capital’s most beautiful green spaces, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, and can just as easily catch up with the dinosaurs in the Natural History Museum, contemplate contemporary culture at the Design Museum, or dip into an array of outstanding shops and restaurants.

From charming pastel cottages to some of London’s grandest homes, Kensington offers both the traditional and the new – including the luxurious 5* hotel-level service at Holland Park Gate, a development of apartments and penthouses centred around a leafy courtyard on Kensington High Street.

London really does have it all.
