David Harber x Savills

Back at Chelsea where ideas and creativity blossom

Our appreciation of nature bloomed during lockdown and it’s well known that the experience of the pandemic drove home movers to look for more space both inside and out.

For buyers, whether it’s a garden, grounds, terraces, a pretty planter or window box, the greenery that frames a property can be a compelling ingredient in the overall package.

Key events such as this week’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show play a huge part in inspiring both seasoned and aspiring gardeners to make the most of these external living spaces, however big or small. And art, in the form of sculpture, can play an important role.

That’s why it is a very great pleasure for Savills to be back at Chelsea this year with David Harber, whose work perfectly captures how sculpture can marry together art and nature and create a central focal point in a garden, whatever the size.

Teardrop Mantle by David Harber

The David Harber x Savills stand, designed by renowned garden designer Emily Erlam – named one of House & Garden’s Top 50 garden designers – showcases a curated selection of sculptures, sundials and water features. These include the first official reveal of Bite II – a piece designed exclusively for this year’s show – and Teardrop Mantle (above), a unique iteration of Harber’s popular Mantle artwork.

Soft and gentle planting provides the backdrop, displaying the sculptures in a way in which people could imagine featuring them in their own gardens.

With so much horticultural advice out there from garden centres to TV, radio and the internet, even the most inexperienced fingers can now turn at least a shade of green, bringing a sought-after extra dimension to the home.
