Today (20 July) sees the start of the 151st Open Championship – golf’s oldest and most prestigious competition.

Over the next four days the sport’s top players will be teeing off at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, Merseyside to battle it out for the much-coveted Claret Jug.

The Open is golf’s only major to take place outside of the United States and is held every year on one of ten links courses in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Due to their desirable location, homes close to notable golf courses are often highly sought after – and last year’s Open at the sport’s spiritual home of St Andrew’s certainly helped to fuel interest in residential properties for sale in the town.
