The vibrant appeal of Berlin

As the capital of Europe’s strongest economy, Berlin has evolved into one of the most globally attractive cities, with a vibrant cultural scene offering a wide array of museums, a plethora of shops, magnificent architecture, a centre for modern art and a focus for foodies.

The German capital has gone from strength to strength in recent years and set to continue on an upward trajectory, benefitting from a buoyant economy, strong domestic and international demand coupled with a shortage of stock. The latest Savills research into prime residential capital value growth in world cities reveals Berlin is forecast to see prime price growth of at least 10 per cent in 2022, the highest increase among the European cities we monitor.

Growth in the residential market is not the only reason so many are choosing to invest in or relocate to Berlin. As an affordable favourite for tech start-ups, there has been an influx of young professionals in recent years, helping to boost the economy and contributing to the city’s cultural vibrancy. The city has a thriving food scene, with 23 Michelin starred restaurants as of 2022. From the innovative patisserie techniques at dessert restaurant CODA, to the sustainably sourced menu at RUTZ, Berlin’s only three Michelin star restaurant, there is something to satisfy every taste.

The city is home to 11 public universities where there are no tuition fees for undergraduate degrees, even for international students. Berlin also scores highly on other practical aspects of daily life, including healthcare and connectivity, and is considered to be one of the greenest cities in Europe, with more parks, gardens and forested areas than any other European city. With a high standard of living and such a vast array of opportunities on offer, it is clear to see why so many are choosing to make Berlin their home.
