The Club des Sports de Courchevel, a Creator of Champions

Created in 1948, le Club de Sports de Courchevel is today a center of excellence for training high level skiers. It is here that Alexis Pinturault, current holder of the Crystal Globe and outstanding French skier, underwent lengthy training honing his talent.

The Club's new headquarters, located at the foot of the Emile Allais slalom stadium, symbolises the unique sporting spirit and ambition that prevail here and throughout Three Valleys. Open to the public with VIP rooms and a restaurant, the Club is an inspiring new location to discover.

This season will be a unique and special one. After the unprecedented events and accompanying disruption of the last year, the ski lifts and pistes have once again reopened across France - to the great joy of young and old. Courchevel and Méribel will be in the spotlight this year as they host the World Cup ski finals at the end of the season. A rehearsal for the flagship event of 2023 (February 6 to 19), the World Ski Championships. A great recognition!

The Club des Sports de Courchevel is the sports partner of the resort, with a background steeped in competitive history, having organized the Olympic Games in 1992, World Cups, European Cups in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and jumping. The Club is an unwavering force within the sport and setting. Several athletes from the French national teams have trained in Courchevel, fostered by the welcome, experience, forethought and skill set of the Club. Without doubt, the Sports Club is a real architect of champions, and Alexis Pinturault is obviously its best ambassador. The most versatile skier that France has ever known, the current holder of the Big Crystal Globe, i.e. the best skier on the circuit, grew up here in this wonderful setting. Alexis learned his trade at the Club des Sports. "He comes back when he can, to meet the young people and children," shares Didier Barrioz, the club's president.

Under the leadership of Bruno Tuaire, its director, the Club des Sports de Courchevel continues to raise the bar. Fostering professional goals and setting its sights on the ultimate achievements, the club has become a model that other resorts can only dream of. Due to the success attained by the club, it is now a recognised training center with the means to achieve its ambitions. Today, the Club has more than 900 members, including 250 children who compete. In fact, each year the club has the difficult task of turning down candidates who are already competitors and who would like to be transferred from their current club to Courchevel!

All the young people who have passed through this institution can obviously not become champions, but they are not forgotten. "We have trained 100 ski instructors and first aiders in ten years, every serious young person who comes here can become an instructor or a first aid worker" explains Didier Barrioz.  In the resort, the Club is an institution. Thanks to Monsieur Barrioz, the local children learn to slide on the slopes, and the Clubt is also the torchbearer of the values of sport for young people, a crucible for the production of high level athletes, with 18 of its current members active in the French team.

With such structure and success, a new dynamic was needed to climb even higher, to professionalise French skiing even more, a place to bring together the teams, to welcome the children and the coaches in the best conditions. Thanks to the generosity of the Brit, Sir James Arthur Ratcliffe, a lover of Courchevel, whose daughter is a member of the Sports Club, this has been realised. Sir Ratcliffe knows the world of sports well: his company Ineos owns the cycling team that bears his name and the soccer clubs OGC Nice and FC Lausanne Sport. This time, he has personally donated 19 million euros to this new project.

The Club has just moved (December 2021) into an elegant 4,500 m² building, clad in stone and wood, designed by Studio Arch. The elegantly designed building is open to all, welcoming young people and teams with offices, gyms and changing rooms, but also a restaurant with 80 seats (150 with the terrace) and reception spaces/meetings rooms that can be rented for private or professional events and seminars. For example, it is possible to book the Crystal Globe room, entirely glazed with an outstanding panoramic view of the resort. It lends itself to all configurations with its 500 m², stage, screens, sound and light control, kitchen and furniture. For a more intimate venue, check out the 180m² lounge bar. It is even possible to rent the 420m² glassed-in gymnasium where four giant trampolines are installed. Other pleasures include booking a session on a golf simulator or organizing a special birthday party for the kids in a decorated (and supervised) room!

The Ineos Club is both a symbolic building and a working tool. It will allow the Club to generate revenue through the rental of space, whilst preparing for the future, to reinvest in the training of young people, since the Club is a non-profit association. The Sports Club is going to live its first season, and will be ready for 2023 when the eyes of the ski world will be on Courchevel for the World Championships. And rightly so!
