As soon as I set foot outside my office, I am greeted by glorious silhouettes of majestic peaks poking their heads above the low-storey buildings in our little village of Verbier. I count myself lucky to live and work in an environment where I have nature’s wide-open spaces on my doorstep and mind-blowing scenery anywhere I look.
Reflecting on the year we have been through, I am grateful as I know others have not been so fortunate. In a time when issues such as isolation while having to stay at home are so prominent, mental health has never been more important.
Establishing a separation between personal and professional life has been vital and the ability to create a comfortable work zone, away from social areas, will continue to make a world of difference as hybrid working patterns look set to become a post-pandemic trend. Setting specific work hours in your day is also an efficient way to set healthy boundaries.
Fortunately we are able to offer a range of home office spaces here in the four valleys, whether it’s a hallway desk, a corner office set-up or a full-blown study. This has worked well over the past 12 months as we have noticed that having a workspace and a speedy Wi-Fi connection has become an essential requirement for many buyers and tenants.
Not having to be in the office can mean working from anywhere in the world, and if given the choice, why wouldn’t you choose a place where lunch break powder skiing is a realistic option?
After a dry spell of about a month, last week’s dump of snow has brought on the return of the weekend warriors and Verbier is buzzing once again. The Freeride World Tour final which took place on Tuesday was officially closed to spectators but that didn’t dampen the mood as the sun has returned and the pistes are gleaming.
Restaurants are still open for takeaway on the mountain, and, if you can find a quiet spot to sit in the snow and bask in the sunshine (ignoring the biting cold numbing the tips of your fingers), you may almost be able to fool yourself into believing that you are sitting on a sunny restaurant terrace – the view might even be better.
Many restaurants have been able to extend their alcohol licence past 3pm since the restriction, so enjoying a glass of rosé with a delicious pizza at the Dahu or watching the sunset over the valley from Ice Cube with a chilled beer don’t have to seem like distant memories any longer.
