If you’re fortunate enough to own a home that has graced the screen as a setting for a TV programme or film you’ll know that it can sometimes prove useful as an extra source of income (see How to maximise the chances of your property being used as a film location).
In the most high-profile examples the property becomes almost as well known as the show or movie itself. And while it's exceptionally rare that appearing on TV or in a film will increase a property's value, it certainly makes an entertaining anecdote for friends and family.
Such properties also tend to be eye-catching and well located – in picturesque villages or close to key transport links, for example – which can add to their appeal.
Among the properties with star quality currently on the market with Savills are a pretty Buckinghamshire cottage that featured in the Vicar of Dibley, a former Essex pub used in the Nineties TV series, Lovejoy, and a collection of prestigious residences in London’s Old War Office building which has been used in James Bond films Octopussy, View to a Kill, Licence to Kill and Skyfall.
Also in London is a five-bedroom family home that was used for the Michael Caine heist thriller, King of Thieves, and an apartment block that featured in the Stephen Hawking biopic, The Theory of Everything.
