Your plans might be on hold but your dreams don’t have to be… 6 inspiring riverside homes

The Thames has been painted by some of the world’s finest artists and written about by celebrated writers and poets. For this, as Churchill once put it, 'is no ordinary waterway, it is the golden thread of our nation’s history’.

The river has its own inexhaustible history too, from the first settlement on its banks around 50AD to the frost fairs of the Middle Ages and the bombs that fell around it during World War II. Its more recent history includes the arrival of the magnificent Thames Barrier and the spectacular flotilla to celebrate HM The Queen’s 90th birthday.

Equally historic are the events that take place on the river and though the University Boat Race last month was cancelled, the Thames Festival Trust is hoping its Rivers of the World and Totally Thames festivals will still go ahead later in the year.

What is certain is that the appeal of the Thames will remain as strong as ever. Who wouldn't like a river view to wake up to? Or perhaps a little boat moored at the bottom of the garden? And even if you can’t make the move to a riverside home at the moment, you can still dream about it. Here are six properties to whet your appetite.
