Every year the Principality‘s secondary schools achieve baccalaureate  passes of almost 100%, excellent results enabling ex-pupils to study all over the world.

The French curriculum is taught in Monaco’s state and French speaking private schools, albeit somewhat enhanced by the inclusion of certain subjects particular to Monaco.

Around 4,500 pupils attend state schools in Monaco  and 1,200 attend the French-speaking private schools, plus 650 go to the International School of Monaco, which offers bi-lingual classes from the age of 6, and  English-only classes from age 11 upwards, where children study for the International Baccalaureate. La Petite Ecole too opened recently, using the Montessori method for English-speaking children.  

The Monaco government is keen to ensure education remains a priority and is devoting a large portion of its budget to the subject over the next decade. Some of the schools will be given new premises: pupils of the François d’Assise Nicolas Barré school move into new premises in Spring 2019; the state-run Collège Charles III moves to a new building with a swimming pool, amphitheatre and gym in 2020; and the International School of Monaco will be rehoused in 5,500m² in the Testimonio II complex before too long.
