As festive preparations ramp up in homes up and down the country, many of us find ourselves burning the candle at both ends at this time of year. A walk in the countryside may just be the perfect antidote to all the chaos and excitement. 

The benefits of spending time outdoors are well documented, and whether a brisk walk or a serious hike, there is nothing like getting out for a stomp to refresh and revitalise. 

The Cotswolds is home to some of the most beautiful rural landscapes in the United Kingdom. For me, winter is when the area is at its most magical.

One of my favourite walks is a lovely circuit around Churchill, where you can earn your lunch at The Chequers pub, before walking it off en route to Daylesford Organic, where you can browse a wonderful array of locally-produced gifts and organic groceries. For the future residents of The Manor House in Chipping Norton, this is just one of so many wonderful walks on their doorstep. 

Set on the eastern side of the Windrush Valley, Great Rissington boasts some equally lovely walks - something for the new owners of The Old Rectory to look forward to, perhaps.
