Surrey's Private Estates: Wentworth, Virginia Water

Wentworth, Virginia Water
  • Prices from £3 million
  • Prices currently up to £50+ million
  • Average plot: 1 acre

The Wentworth Estate was built on land once owned by the brother-in-law of the Duke of Wellington. In the 18th century it consisted of a large house called Wentworths and a relatively small estate, which was later extended by a subsequent owner.

Like St George’s Hill in Weybridge, Wentworth Estate was the vision of master builder W G Tarrant who worked with golf course architect Harry Colt to develop the estate. Adjoining the beautiful landscapes of Virginia Water and Windsor Great Park, Wentworth’s glorious setting is echoed by three world-class golf courses and The Wentworth Club – the original Wentworths – one of the finest sporting clubs in Europe (many of the estate properties confer the automatic right to join the Wentworth Club).

Today Wentworth offers everything from ultra-prime contemporary mansions to more traditional townhouses dating back from the 1920s. It is most prized for its vibrant social scene and the open parkland setting afforded by the three golf courses, while still maintaining discretion.

It's no surprise that this exclusive estate is popular through all four corners of the world and is home everyone from athletes to musicians and financial figures to royalty. That said, there is also plenty of interest from families, both those who live locally and from further afield.
