Love London: Knightsbridge in a day

Knightsbridge in a day

Knightsbridge has long been a favourite with visitors: think designer shopping, world-famous museums, fine dining and some superb architecture. Here’s how to spend a day exploring the area.

9am

Arrive at Knightsbridge (Piccadilly line) or South Kensington (District,Circle and Piccadilly lines) stations at start the day with breakfast at Aubaine, an elegant, Parisian-style café near the famous Bibendum building. Excellent coffee, delicious pastries and good for people watching.

10.30am

Then stroll up to Cromwell Road for some culture at London’s world famous trio of museums: the V&A, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum, where the architecture is also part of the attraction. Entry is free to view the permanent collections, making it easy to dip in and out, depending how much time you have. It’s worth booking ahead for tickets to the temporary exhibitions and events, which are always popular.

1pm

Time for lunch. Jaks on Walton Street is a popular local café with a relaxed, ‘pick and mix’-style food counter for selecting food which is then served at your table.

2.30pm

Walk off lunch in nearby Hyde Park, or if you’re feeling energetic, why not enjoy the sights from horseback? Throughout the year the park hosts many attractions, from open air concerts to a Winter Wonderland – there’s always lots to see and do.

4.30pm

A visit to Knightsbridge wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the world’s most famous department store: Harrods. With seven floors of shopping spread across 4.5 acres, it should satisfy every taste and requirement. The Food Halls are always impressive and don’t forget to look out for the Egyptian escalator.

7pm

Dinner has to be at fashionable Zuma, a contemporary Japanese restaurant and bar. Go for the tasting menu to get the full experience.

10pm

Round off a perfect day in The Blue Bar, at The Berkeley hotel, an upscale Art Deco-style bar where the mixologist will create a bespoke cocktail, or two, for you.
