Love London: Tips for selling property in Shoreditch

Shoreditch selling tips

With the demand for property in Shoreditch increasing, it's vital to know how to stand out from other properties on the market. Here are six top tips.

1. The archetypal Shoreditch property is an open plan warehouse conversion. There are a lot of these properties but they tend to be confined to a few streets around the Old Street roundabout area and the Shoreditch triangle, and are in high demand. If you’re selling a Shoreditch warehouse conversion, embrace its original qualities, such as iron window frames and exposed brick and piping from the original building.

2. Don’t underestimate the power of a first impression. As the majority of properties available in the Shoreditch area are flats, its worthwhile paying extra attention to communal areas and the entrance. This is what potential buyers will see first when viewing and sets them up for the rest of the property.

3. If you live in a portered block, let the porter know your property is on the market and tell him when you are expecting viewings. That way, if potential buyers turn up early or want to check out the development before arranging a viewing, they will be made to feel welcome.

4. Try to encourage as much light as possible into small rooms. Open up the space with light-coloured walls, freshly cleaned windows and clear doorways and window ledges. And, plant up window boxes to give an impression of outside space.

5. Shoreditch is known for its edgy art and music scene, so hang some bright and quirky artwork on the walls to give the place some Shoreditch character. There are several galleries in and around Shoreditch, with street art being a big hit in the area. Take a browse at Hales Gallery, Red Gallery, or Pure Evil for potential wall hangings.

6. As properties in Shoreditch tend to be quite compact, think ahead and consider putting some of your additional furniture and clutter into storage to open up the space even more. A nearby provider is Big Yellow, located in Bow, E2.
