Agents will have a new tool that enhances the opportunities to market a property, thanks to ground-breaking new technology developed by Savills, in conjunction with ReWind. Tomorrow's buyers will simply be able to strap on a head mounted display (HMD) and take a virtual reality tour.
How it works
A property is filmed using a mixture of laser scanning and 360 degree capturing equipment. The images go through a post-production process and are delivered via a HMD which tracks the user's head movements and shows each eye a slightly different image, giving the illusion of being in a 3D space. Soundscaping is added at certain points of the tour for an additional sense of presence. The user is then able to 'move' from room to room and out into the garden via a number of hotspots.
The experience
It takes a few minutes to get accustomed to the navigation system and to the sensation of walking through a space while in reality only moving a few metres. Drones are used to capture aerial images so users can even view properties from above (not recommended for anyone with a fear of heights).
Where to preview the system
The Virtual Reality system has been showcased at a number of recent events, and is currently at our London Head Office. It can also be used to view Furze Croft, a palatial mansion in St George's Hill, Weybridge.
