'Record-breaking' penthouse crowns The Whiteley with vast private terrace

A ‘record-breaking’ penthouse has been unveiled in the latest chapter of the reinvention of one of London’s landmark buildings.

The astonishing trophy residence atop The Whiteley, Finchatton's major redevelopment of London’s first-ever department store in Bayswater, features a 4,462 sq ft roof terrace.

The set of penthouses, revealed by property developers Finchatton, MARK and CC Land, form the latest milestone in the £1.2bn super-prime resi reinvention. With prices ranging from £22mn to £40mn, the penthouses will have access to a realm of services provided by the next-door Six Senses hotel.

The marquee unit features striking curved glass façades that echo the shape of the building’s famous – and now restored – dome. It provides five bedrooms and a living area that opens onto a vast 4,462 sq ft landscaped terrace, presenting 360-degree views of the capital. The outside space is thought to be the biggest private residential roof terrace in London.

Occupying an entire city block on Queensway in W2, The Whiteley is creating 139 new homes - including 14 Six Senses serviced apartments - alongside a 109-room luxury hotel, which is the first Six Senses in the UK. It is due to complete this year.

The scheme, for which Savills is a selling agent, is being brought forward by development manager Finchatton and joint venture investment partners MARK and C C Land, with architecture led by Foster+Partners.

Amenities provided by the adjoining Six Senses hotel include: Grocery stocking; a wine sommelier expertise and wine storage; pet care and dog walking; limousine and transportation services; housekeeping, turn down and laundry service; in-residence spa and wellness treatments; a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, and a sports hall including Padel tennis court.

Ian Pidgeon, London development director at Savills, says: “The Whiteley is London's most significant Super Prime regeneration and the launch of these exceptionally rare penthouses are its crowning glory and a feat of engineering, imagination, and creativity. While each apartment in The Penthouse Collection is unique, all embrace the concept of a relaxed, indoor-outdoor lifestyle with the overall effect providing a seamless flow between the interiors, the outdoor spaces, and the unsurpassed views of London.”
