The Battle began as a celebration to mark Edward VII’s coronation in 1902. In the early years it was the tradition for flowers and petals to be torn from the floats and thrown at people in the crowd in the hope they would throw them back.

The event became one of Europe’s largest floral carnivals and a piece of Jersey’s history, regularly attracting over 22,000 spectators.
