The village of Kew in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is perhaps best known for the Royal Botanic Gardens – a 300-acre World Heritage Site with the largest collection of flora and fauna in the world, as well as the historic Kew Palace and Kew Palm House. Now that spring has well and truly sprung, there’s arguably no better time to enjoy what Kew Village has to offer.

Hugging the River Thames, Kew Village is often described as a ‘little bit of countryside in the city’. Full of independent boutiques, shops, cafés and its own weekly farmers’ market, this neighbourhood has a wonderful sense of community and even more so in the summer months when the cricket club occupies Kew green. The annual Kew fête, a celebration of local businesses, also inhabits the green each year, bringing the community together.

Property types here are varied and the surrounding roads, often tree-lined, hold a good mix of period conversions and apartments, as well as detached Edwardian and Victorian homes, making it an ideal location for family living. With access to a number of excellent independent state, private and comprehensive schools and nurseries, it’s easy to see why so many young couples choose this area to settle down in.

One bedroom flats generally start at around £400,000, while best-in-class detached family homes with a large garden can command upwards of £5 million, particularly when finished to a high standard. The average second hand sale price of a home in Kew is just under £1 million, while a detached home is circa £2.13 million.

Centred around Kew Gardens station, residents here have ease of access to  central London via the District line, and over ground links to Waterloo and the South West, as well as access to further afield via the M4 corridor. Despite its accessibility, much of the attraction for buyers is the sense of space and the larger properties on offer, while keeping the hustle and bustle of the capital within arm’s reach.
