As an auctioneer, nothing quite beats the thrill of being on the rostrum selling properties. These days, our sale is conducted remotely and despite not standing in front of a room full of buyers, we continue to interact with them via the screen we have in front of us which indicates incoming bids and activity.
While we may no longer be able to gesture to ‘the gentleman in the red jumper’, we are still able to engage and communicate with bidders and feel part of the action. A good example of this is our most recent auction which saw over 70 bids come in for a property in less than one minute – it was incredibly exciting seeing the offers being submitted second by second and to then put the gavel down when bidding finally concluded.
Of course, the lots themselves also make our job varied and interesting. Across our 10 auctions this year, we’d expect to sell more than 1,000 properties and inevitably that means we will list all sorts of weird and wonderful examples along the way.
In April we will be bringing more than 120 lots to market, ranging in price from £6,500 for a ground rent in north west London to a Harlesden site of over 7,000 sq ft with planning for 17 flats guided at £2 million.
With the likes of central London flats, country cottages, car parks, period buildings, a parade of shops and even a nature reserve all featuring in the catalogue, we hope there’s something that’ll appeal to all auction buyers – whether seasoned purchasers or new entrants.
Here we take a look at just some of the highlights in Savills next auction – the full catalogue can be viewed by clicking on this link.
