Homes with former uses often tell the most interesting of stories. Connecting past with present, they have a variety of origins from mills and pubs to schools and chapels – many within landmark buildings that form the foundation of a community’s heritage.
Such homes can be extraordinary and unusual, especially when incorporating elements of their history.
One example in our gallery below is The Windmill in Buckinghamshire, which as the name suggests, is a former windmill which has been beautifully restored to provide a unique family home spread over five octagonal floors.
Also featured is a penthouse apartment in one of Southampton’s former most prestigious hotels, South Western Hotel, a former coach house in Berkshire, a converted mill in Northamptonshire, and a Victorian former school and a converted post office, both in Kent.
