From terraces to turrets: why Victorian homes have such lasting appeal

Queen Victoria reigned from 1837 to 1901, a time in which Britain transformed from a rural society to a highly industrialised world power.

In the wake of the Industrial Revolution, the 19th century saw the rise of the increasingly affluent middle classes. They and the rest of the rapidly expanding population needed homes and a Victorian house-building boom ensued.

From terraces to turrets, this period saw the emergence of a variety of building styles with character aplenty. As a result, Victorian property is far from uniform.
