Arts and Crafts: the architectural style that revived the skill of the artisan

Forged in the late 19th century from a desire to revive the skill of the artisan, Arts and Crafts was a British art and design movement heavily influenced by the ideas of architect Augustus Pugin, designer William Morris and writer John Ruskin.

Its philosophy aimed to restore simplicity and honesty to the way in which buildings and furnishings were made in a reaction against industrialisation and the mass production of the Victorian era.

Utilising skilled and traditional construction methods, it comes as no surprise that it has stood the test of time and remains an important and meaningful part of our architectural heritage.

Here’s a selection of Arts and Crafts properties currently available on the market.
