Summer sales on the sea shore

As a maritime nation, the sea is part of our DNA. Our culture – art, literature, music and folklore – is steeped in it. Many of our favourite pastimes – sailing, surfing, sea-fishing, wind-surfing, to name but a few – take place beside or upon it.

The sea also provides us with 17,820 km of diverse coastline, from wild and rugged climes to more gentle natural beauty. For those thinking of buying somewhere on the coast, initial searches may begin with a wide net, proximity to water overriding any preference for a particular location. But once people find an area they love and put down roots, they tend to pass their prized properties down through the generations.

Here is our selection of the best coastal properties currently on the market, including the Pembrokeshire home once frequented by Sir Stanley Baldwin and arguably one of the finest penthouse apartments ever built on the south coast.
