Remote farms: over the hills and far away

Fears over access to fresh produce have seen many of us become first-time growers of salad leaves, herbs and vegetables this spring. Fortunately, the UK's farmers have continued to plant crops and the supply chain is still functioning.

It is perhaps only from the air that it is possible to appreciate the size of the UK’s agricultural operation which accounts for three-quarters of our land area. As an industry the agri-food sector in 2017* contributed £121 billion to the economy and over £10 billion of that was from agriculture.

While self-isolation might be new to many of us, for some farmers it's a way of life.
