Residential development offers a new take on 'eating in'

Ask a city dweller what they love about their urban lifestyle and the chances are that quick and easy access to restaurants, cafés and bars will be high on the list.

While a short walk, cab ride or hop on public transport may be a small price to pay for the pleasure of eating out, how about a restaurant that’s quite literally on the doorstep? And what could be better than one with outside space that also gives you the opportunity to enjoy a sunny day or tempts you out on a balmy evening?

Increasingly, larger mixed-use schemes, combining homes and commercial outlets, are seen as the way ahead by developers and planners, offering residents lively neighbourhoods with a range of amenities and a whole new meaning to ‘eating in’. What’s more if you’re caught out by the British weather, home is never too far away.

Here’s a pick of new homes developments with al fresco additions to whet the appetite.
