Will watching a movie lead to your next move?

Switch on the television over the Christmas period and you're sure to find all the festive favourites. But it isn't just the storylines that entertain, it's also the locations in which they're set. You curl up on the sofa and imagine what your own life would be like if you lived where the characters in the movie do.

Being featured in a movie can put a location on the international map, attracting visitors from far and wide who want to see for themselves where Hollywood royalty acted out their scenes. Fans of Notting Hill scour W11 for the iconic blue front door while Harry Potter enthusiasts search King's Cross Station for platform 9 3/4.

But there are some who take things a little bit further. We currently have a cottage available to let in Shere, Surrey (pictured), where much of The Holiday was filmed. The cottage's previous tenants were living on the other side of the world when they saw the film and decided they’d like to live in the English countryside. They moved back home after a year, but not before they had explored many of the spots visited in the film by its leading characters.

So as you settle down to a festive flick this Christmas be warned: it could lead to a case of lights, camera, transaction.
