Scandi-chic interiors may not be leaving us just yet but there is a definite movement back to bolder, more vibrant decorative styles. Homeowners are now inviting in more pattern, textures, pops of colour and statement pieces.

This has been recognised by a number of interiors and design companies. Farrow & Ball, for example, has just launched its new season wallpaper range, ‘in full bloom’, which complements many of its key colours, while also adding a more striking graphic. Farrow & Ball is a trusted British brand – consumers often look to it for inspiration and its influence can be seen across UK households.

Similarly, Designers Guild and Tricia Guild have released a new book, Paint Box, which is best described as a ‘decoration recipe book’. They have never shied away from colour and bright designs, and this book advises property- owners on colour combinations and how they can be used at home.

Those looking to sell or rent their properties might think that these bold colours will deter buyers, but this isn’t necessarily the case. Pops of colour, when used in the right way, can transform a room. If you don’t want to take the plunge by putting colour on the walls, it can be introduced through artwork, furniture and accessories. These simple additions can make all the difference, without being overbearing and off-putting to potential buyers or tenants.

For bigger statement pieces, think coloured sofas, feature chairs and large abstract artwork. Otherwise cushions, throws, coffee table books and vases are a really easy way of introducing new colours and are also simple to swap as trends and seasons change. This is particularly prevalent at the moment where we are seeing autumnal colours, such as amber, burnt orange and deep reddish-browns, coming into favour.

Whether you are dressing your property for yourself, or a future buyer or tenant, the best advice is to introduce bold colours little by little to ensure it works for the space and, more importantly, that you like it.
