6 of the best...Properties for multigenerational living

More than one generation living under the same roof is a growing trend, but whilst elderly relatives moving in with family might not be a new phenomenon, adult children staying at home for longer, or moving back home with their parents after university, is on the rise.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of young adults aged 20 to 34 in the UK sharing a home with their parents remains at its highest for over 20 years.

Furthermore the NHBC (Nation House Building Council) estimates that there is demand for around 125,000 multi-generational homes per year in the UK, with many family members considering living with relatives to accommodate changing needs.

For many, multigenerational living provides a solution to a shortage in affordable housing and high rental costs. Families looking to make this move will look for ancillary accommodation, such as a separate annexe, attic or a self-contained floor, or separate entertainment areas – a second living room, say, or a converted barn.

Here are six of the best properties for multigenerational living currently on the market.
