A pick of the best properties with coastal cachet

High-octane activity or quiet reverie?

However you like to be beside the seaside, with such a varied and extensive coastline there’s bound to be somewhere to fit the bill along these shores.

Coastal properties have an appeal all of their own, whether it’s the dramatic, ever-changing views, the promise of fresh sea air or the potential for water sports on tap.

We know of buyers who have lived by the sea then moved inland, only to hanker for the sights and sounds of the waves again. And according to Savills Research, houses within 100m of the coastline in England and Wales cost an average of £366,000, which is 15.5 per cent more than those located up to 1km further inland. The premium for front-line positions with direct views of the water can often be considerably more.

Our gallery below includes stops at a property by Chesil Beach in Dorset, an Arts and Crafts style home in Beer, Devon, with views across the Jurassic Coastline, and a coastal home in Pembrokeshire with potential for commercial use.

So sit back, relax and enjoy this summer’s siren call of the sea.
