Moving Stories raises more than £2,000 for charity

Back in September we launched a series of blogs called Moving Stories. It was inspired by Savills new advertising campaign and, like the campaign, explored the relationship between home and home-owner, accompanied by some excellent advice from eminent psychologist Sir Professor Cary Cooper, MBE.

What surprised us was not only how complex our relationships with our homes are, but also the huge range of emotions they inspire. Who can forget the writer who told of shutting herself in a wardrobe after her father's death because that’s where she used to practise tying shoe laces on his brogues? Or the woman who was horrified to discover she had washed the smell of home from her adopted child’s clothing? Or, indeed, the man who worried that the home he was providing for his young son wasn’t as good as his own childhood home had been?

But Moving Stories wasn’t just about reliving painful, funny and bittersweet memories. It was also about raising money for the Savills Graduates chosen charity, Dreams Come True.

Dreams Come True is a national charity that fulfills the dreams of children and young people with serious and life-limiting conditions. Over the last 25 years, the charity has fulfilled dreams for more than 5,000 children and young people as well as their friends, family and carers.

The dreams are not always about meeting a hero or visiting a special place. Sometimes children need help with accessing things like disability trikes, wheelchair swings, sensory equipment and technology. For example, one little girl whose multiple congenital anomalies meant she needed monitoring 24 hours a day simply wanted to be able to go on sleepovers. With the help of a portable travel pod bought for her by Dreams Come True she and her family were finally able to spend nights away from home.

We’re delighted to report that Moving Stories has raised more than £2,000 for Dreams Come True and would like to thank everyone who contributed to the series.
