After spending decades in the style wilderness, home bars are back, moving from ‘bad taste’ to ‘cutting edge’ in the space of a few years.
Though today’s bars do have an undeniably retro feel, there are subtle differences. For example, they are likely to be built in a separate space rather than being shoe-horned into the corner of a formal drawing room, making them more conducive to entertaining.
The bar has not yet become a 21st-century ‘must have’ in the manner of the home cinema and the gym – buyers are more likely to see them as a bonus – but watch this space.
Meanwhile, raise a glass to the home bar and take a look through some of the best on the market.
