Our new home photobombed our wedding

Deja vu

My now husband, Jon, and I got engaged in 2011. Though I didn’t have any strong views about where our wedding took place, Jon had always wanted to get married in the village he grew up in and where his parents still lived. So that’s what we did. Our wedding was in his village church and our reception took place in the estate grounds behind it.

At that stage, we had no plans to move to the village. It's true that every time we went back to have our wedding banns read, someone would ask us whether we were planning to live in the area. But as we both had jobs at least an hour’s drive away and neither of us fancied a long daily commute, relocating there just wasn’t on our radar.

Then in 2013 we decided it was time to buy a house. We both liked the idea of somewhere just like Jon’s village, only closer to work, but despite months of looking we were unable to find what we wanted. Gradually we began to wonder whether an hour’s commute was really so bad.

We decided the only way to find out was to try it, so we did a few trial runs – and discovered it was much better than we imagined. After that, we began looking for somewhere to buy.

By the end of the year we had moved into a house we both loved. Only then did we realise that our new home was in the background of some of our wedding photos. Had it been trying to tell us something all along?
