Country mansions in the north of England and Scotland are coming back into fashion as property wealth ripples out to more outlying areas from key city hubs. Agents are reporting increased viewing numbers with premium prices being paid as buyers fall back in love with rural commuter locations. In Scotland for example, viewing figures were up by 40 per cent in July and August, compared to the same period last year, and activity is no longer simply restricted to the prime city hubs.
No more than an hour's commute from a major city, close to an international airport, good schools and with enough bedrooms and reception rooms to entertain clients, friends and family, commutable country mansions are once again becoming an attractive option for successful business people. And with leisure options like a gym, stables, swimming pool, extensive outside space, outbuildings and even secret gardens, they provide the prefect bolthole to relax with the family away from work.
