With the return of the BBC period Cornish drama Poldark, viewers will once again be treated to some of the most iconic West Country scenery.
From the Georgian harbour village of Charlestown and the former Wheal Owles mine at Botallack to Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach and the rugged coves of West Cornwall, it is the unspoilt, undeveloped locations which showcase the Cornish Coast at its best. And while the series alone is unlikely to impact on the local property market, it certainly does nothing to detract from the county's appeal for those looking for a main residence or second home.
The premiums buyers can expect to pay in some of the most popular coastal locations reflect this. In Ultra Prime locations, such as Fowey, Rock or Padstow, sale prices can reach up to 84 per cent more than the county average for an equivalent property. The Prime Coastal areas of Falmouth, Port Isaac, Marazion, St Ives or St Agnes can command a premium of up to 49 per cent. Meanwhile in those locations considered to be Emerging Prime Markets, such as Helston, Bude, Hayle and Looe, the premium is much more modest at up to 18 per cent.
However, these premiums do not apply to all coastal areas in Cornwall. In fact, in locations such as Penzance and the traditional seaside resort of Newquay prices can often be found to be below the county average.
Premium or not, there's no doubt that whether you are looking to up sticks and relocate to this former mining heartland or want to secure a property to escape to at holidays and weekends, Poldark Country has it all. Here’s our pick of the best properties currently available:
