Why the dog house is the place to be

Dog Cottage, Falconwood House

When Charles Cruft set up his eponymous dog show in 1891, little did he know what a phenomenon it would become, with more than 20,000 dogs entered each year. The event, which takes place over four days, is attended by around 150,000 visitors. Millions more watch it on TV.

But the success of the show is perhaps not so surprising. We are, after all, a nation of dog-lovers: the RSPCA estimates that there are around 9 million pet dogs in the UK (beating cats by about a million) and as a nation we spend a small fortune on keeping our pets happy and well.

Which explains why developers Octagon included this charming dog cottage in the grounds of Falconwood House, a £9.5 million mansion in St George's Hill, Weybridge, Surrey. Buyers are always looking for that one feature that makes a property stand out against everything else on the market. The dog cottage is both quirky and different and may well be one of those ‘extra elements' that tips the property in favour of a sale.

The feedback we’ve had so far is that people think it is a nice idea and it makes them smile. Does it add value – no; but it may well help the saleability.
