Landowners offered support for woodland creation

Woodland

A window of funding from the Countryside Stewardship scheme is offering support to landowners looking to create new woodland.

The grant scheme from the Rural Development Programme for England is seeking applications from 16 February to 31 March 2016, and is open to owners of bare land, woodland and hedgerows.

Successful applicants will receive up to £6,800 per hectare for the creation of new woodland to plant single trees, clumps of trees, hedgerows or entire woodlands. This grant isn’t for those looking to plant woodland for Christmas trees or biomass production, or for restocking woodlands following normal felling. It is aimed at landowners looking to create new woodland which will go on to have a tangible environmental benefit such as supporting wildlife, enhancing the landscape and reducing the risk of flooding and soil erosion, while improving water quality.

The window for applications is a matter of just a few weeks so time is off the essence for those looking to take advantage.
