'Private' and 'contemporary' top the wish list for sports professionals

Falconwood House, Surrey

Ten years ago the words 'sport' and 'property' would rarely be used in the same sentence. But with the wealth that now surrounds most professional sports, property has become both a luxury aspirational item and a sound investment for sportsmen and women. In a previous blog we revealed where the sports professionals are buying. Here, we look at the requirements which invariably top their property wish lists.

Privacy and Security

For those in the public eye their home is their haven so being private and somewhat hidden from the world is always high on the wish list. High-level security, including cameras, lasers and iPhone monitoring, and a system enabling doors to be opened by fingerprint recognition only, is also paramount.

Technology

The majority of today’s professional sportsmen and women are under 35 and have grown up in a tech world, so naturally this is reflected in their property requirements. Among the must-haves are state-of-the-art sound and media systems, plus sophisticated media rooms for gaming and chilling out in down time.

Contempory look and feel

New builds tend to be favoured increasingly by the younger sports stars for the clean lines, modern finishes and, ideally, a concierge service. This is not just because few have the time to manage the needs of an older property – many are also under time pressure when buying, so purchasing from new takes away a lot of the potential pain.

Specific location

Being close to work is often a must and many will buy within a few miles of the course, track, training ground or HQ. They also need to be within close proximity to an airport for international travel.
