Sloane Street has long been a fashionable shopping street, with plenty of history and architecture. Here’s how to spend a day exploring the area.
9am
From Sloane Square station (District and Circle lines), turn right and head to Colbert Chelsea, on the corner of the square. Inspired by the boulevard cafés of Paris, this is the ideal place to plan your day over a delicious breakfast and coffee.
10am
Time for some shopping. Sloane Street is home to many of the world’s most famous designer names, and if nothing else the window shopping is worthwhile. Or, if you’d prefer some exercise, take a stroll round the Royal Hospital Chelsea, or for tennis and cricket enthusiasts there’s Burton Court, a sports area owned by the Royal Hospital.
1pm
Having built up an appetite, take a walk down beautiful Elizabeth Street in Belgravia and have lunch at the Thomas Cubitt. This traditional pub with a contemporary twist honours London’s legendary master builder and features open fireplaces, wooden floors and detailed panelling, and a solid oak bar. The atmosphere is buzzy and the food is good too. If the weather is fine, bag a table outside.
3pm
Visit the Saatchi Gallery in Duke of York Square, just off the King's Road. Charles Saatchi’s contemporary gallery has become a major contender in the art world, with previous exhibitors, including Andy Warhol, Frank Auerbach and Lucien Freud. It's also the place to see new young artists.
There's time for more shopping, if required, in Duke of York Square, which has a good selection of well-known brands and international retailers.
6pm
Head up Sloane Avenue to The Berkeley hotel’s fashionable and exclusive Blue Bar for pre-dinner cocktails.
7pm
After cocktails, walk the short distance down to Motcomb Street where you'll find the Michelin-starred Amaya. Here, you can watch the exceptional Indian cuisine being prepared in the theatrical open-grill kitchen.
