Love London: Marylebone in a day

Image treatment

Set in the heart of Central London, Marylebone offers a unique haven of independent shops and boutiques, designer fashion and interiors, restaurants and cafés. Here’s how to spend a day exploring the area.

9am

Arrive at Baker Street (Bakerloo, Metropolitan, Hammesmith & City, Circle and Jubilee lines) or Bond Street (Central and Jubilee lines) stations and take a short walk to Providores (Marylebone High Street), where they serve exciting and innovative fusion cuisine. For a healthy but nourishing breakfast, try Turkish eggs accompanied by one of their delicious coffees. It's the best way to start the day.

10.30am

Time to walk off breakfast as you enjoy the the village atmosphere and the predominately Georgian architecture. From Marylebone High Street, head north to Regent’s Park. We love Regent’s Park for its vast, green spaces and although you’re in Central London, you will feel as if you’re miles away from the city. Designed by John Nash in the 18th century, the Park covers 395 acres and includes Queen Mary’s Gardens, with more than 12,000 roses of 400 varieties, as well as gloriously restored William Andrews Nesfield’s Avenue Gardens, excellent sport facilities, an Open Air Theatre and London Zoo.

1pm

Back to Marylebone High Street for some lunch at Fischer's; an authentic Viennese restaurant with great food and excellent service – the famous Schnitzels are highly recommended.

3pm

Shopping, and if required, more shopping. With its designer boutiques, independents, specialist shops and many well-known brands, Marylebone High Street is excellent browsing territory. However, if your retail needs are more serious, Selfridges, a short walk away on Oxford Street, has six floors of world-class shopping, including most of the famous fashion brands, jewellery, beauty and furniture, and a world-famous food hall.

If you prefer a spot of culture, The Wallace Collection is worth a visit (free admission). This historic London townhouse is home to 25 galleries of unsurpassed 18th-century French painting, furniture and porcelain, arms and armour, and a superb collection of Old Masters.

6pm

It must be time for a cocktail at Purl on Blandford Street. This fun, quirky cocktail bar serves all types of drinks, made in different, experimental ways, alongside contemporary music that leans towards swing, jazz and blues.

7pm

Dinner at Chiltern Firehouse – currently one of London’s most talked about restaurants. Michelin-star chef Nuno Mendes creates exceptional menus of reimagined classics, with an emphasis on seasonality and healthy eating. The restaurant is always buzzing at the weekend and booking as far ahead as possible is essential. Or, if you prefer somewhere more relaxed and low-key, The Grazing Goat on New Quebec Street, offers a traditional pub menu, local ales, creative cocktails and a roaring fire.
