Mayfair is one of London’s most exclusive and luxury areas, and not just on the Monopoly Board. Here’s how to spend a day exploring the area.

9am

Arrive at Green Park station (Piccadilly, Victoria and Jubiliee lines). After a morning stroll through picturesque Green Park, there’s no better place for a delicious breakfast than The Wolseley. Having no doubt worked up a ferocious appetite, now’s the time to head over to Roka for lunch. This smart, yet fun restaurant specialises in Japanese-style cuisine and the open kitchen adds an element of theatre. The knowledgeable staff will ensure you have a terrific experience.

Or, if you prefer something lighter, head to Benugo in Brownhart Gardens, a stone’s throw from Oxford Street. If you are in this neck of the woods on a Wednesday, you’ll catch the popular Mayfair farmer’s market.

3pm

After such an energetic morning, some culture may be required with a trip to The Royal Academy, which hosts a diverse programme of exhibitions by world-class artists and academicians. Exhibitions to look forward to in the coming months range from contemporary artist Ai Weiwei (the artist behind the controversial Sunflower Seeds at Tate Modern in 2013) to ‘Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse’.

4.30pm

You simply cannot visit Mayfair without having a traditional Afternoon Tea experience. Choose from Claridge's or The Ritz: whether you opt for fresh scones with Earl Grey tea or decadent patisserie accompanied by a flute of champagne, this is one sweet treat that’s too good to resist.

6pm

Perhaps now would be the right time for wander through some of Mayfair’s famous streets and green spaces. If you had tea at The Ritz you could walk up Dover Street, through Berkley Square and then on to the beautifully manicured Grosvenor Square.

7pm

Given that Mayfair is the closest residential area to Soho, why not walk across to theatreland? If you’re feeling spontaneous and in the mood for some entertainment, there’s always plenty of choice – ask at the box office for returns.

Alternatively, enjoy some pre-dinner drinks at 28-50 Wine Workshop & Kitchen, where if the weather is kind, you can venture out onto the terrace and experience an inner city oasis of sophistication and tranquillity.

9pm

Just follow the delicious scent of flame-grilled steak a few metres up the same street to Goodman’s of Mayfair for a delicious meal and a good time. With its leather upholstery, dark wood panelling and chatty staff, this place brings the vibe of a bustling New York Steak House to the heart of London.

11pm

Still got some energy? Then dance the night away at Mahiki on Dover Street. This Hawaii Tiki-themed night club is a favourite with celebrities and London socialites, and the cocktails are dangerously good, too. Or, if a classy, yet quirky bar with an old-world charm sounds more appealing, Mr Fogg’s on Bruton Lane is the place for a trend-setting marmalade infused cocktail.
