Tips for selling property in Glasgow

Glasgow selling tips

From stylish new developments to the city’s renowned tenements and townhouses, Glasgow boasts an exciting mix of properties. Here are five top tips for selling your property in Scotland’s largest city:

1. Outdoor space is at a premium, so remember to tell buyers about anything from a balcony or roof terrace to a private or communal garden, and have all relevant information to hand. Also, Glasgow has many immaculate private green spaces, including Westbourne, Kingsborough, Princes and Athole Gardens - dog walking is also possible in the beautiful Botanic Gardens.

2. Many properties provide great opportunities for conversion: from townhouses to tenements, and young professionals and older buyers are aware of the excellent potential these buildings can offer.  If you’re selling this type of property ensure you have all planning documents and building consent forms required to inform buyers keen to convert, particularly if the property is in a conservation area.

3. If you’re lucky enough to own one of Glasgow’s many Victorian, Georgian or Edwardian properties, remember to accentuate any period features. Show viewers that you have working shutters, clear spaces around original fire places, spruce up the paintwork on cornicing, clean windows and pull back curtains to show-off any views of the city.

4. Maintenance can be minimal in many of the communal stairwells and close areas within Glasgow’s tenements. If you feel yours needs a touch of TLC in order to give buyers the best first impression, speak to your factoring service.

5. Glasgow is full of areas undergoing regeneration, notably the Park District in the West End, which is now regarded as one of the city’s most distinguished residential areas. If you’re fortunate enough to own a property in Park, be sure to highlight the excellent location to buyers. Walking to work is definitely possible, and emphasise the city’s efficient subway network, the third oldest underground metro system in the world.
