Bath in a day

Bath in a day

Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its Roman heritage and iconic Georgian architecture along with a cosmopolitan range of leisure, shopping, dining and cultural amenities. Here's how to spend a day in this beautiful city.

9am

Arrive at Bath Spa Station and make your way to Graze Bar & Chophouse – it's right nextdoor to the station and overlooks South Gate Bath, the city's premier retail experience.

10am

Take a leisurely walk through Bath’s retail hub. When you're done window shopping, head north to the Georgian epicentre of Bath: The Circus and Royal Crescent.

11am

On your way through town, stop to get a taste of life in Ancient Rome at the city's Roman Baths and Museum.

12pm

The Circus and Royal Crescent were built by legendary architect John Wood. When he died, his son John Wood, the Younger oversaw the completion of The Circus. You can travel back to the Georgian era at No 1 Royal Crescent which is now a living museum.

1pm

Make your way back to The Circus and have lunch at Circus Cafe & Restaurant or at Dower House Restaurant, overlooking the gardens of the Royal Crescent Hotel. If you fancy something a little less formal and the weather permits, how about a picnic at the Royal Crescent lawns or Royal Victoria Park, a few minutes' walk away.

2.30pm

Time for a spot of excercise. Bath Tennis Club, just west of Royal Victoria Park, is thought to be one of the oldest tennis clubs in the UK and welcomes non-members. Don't play? There's adventure golf in Royal Victoria Park or, if you walk back down to the river, you can hire a rowing boat, punt or canoe from Bath Boating Station.

Alternatively, take in a matinee (Wednesday and Saturday) at the Theatre Royal, or head to the Bath Rugby Club where you’ll find the top teams battling it out for the top spot in the Aviva Premiership.

4pm

Have afternoon tea at Sally Lunn’s, home of the original Bath bun. If you're more hands on, you could create your own bread in the The Bertinet Kitchen near The Circus. After tea, what better way to rewind than with a Twilight Package at Bath Thermae Spa? The three-hour package includes use of the roof-top pool and a light meal in the restaurant.

8pm

If you’re feeling peckish, Bath boasts a variety of fine dining experiences and cuisines, ranging from Gah Pad Nam Mun Hoi at Thai Balcony to prime fillet at Hudson Steak House.

10pm

Round off your day with a nightcap at Sub 13 in George Street. Sub 13 regularly scoops Best Bar in the Bath Life awards and it's less than a 10-minute walk from here back to the station to catch the last train.
