As far as outside space goes, nothing beats a rolling lawn edged by well-planted beds – unless, perhaps, it's a beautiful balcony or chic terrace. Easier to look after than a garden, and much better suited to entertaining, terraces and balconies are generally positioned to make the most of available light and, in the case of balconies, tend to have the best views. Would Romeo have been quite so taken with Juliet if she had been standing on a patch of soggy grass?
