Savills Housing Sector Survey 2020 in association with Social Housing Magazine

Today Savills & Social Housing have launched their 2020 Housing Sector Survey of 175 senior executives among the housing associations and local authorities who are responsible for the provision of affordable housing across the UK.

Across this sector it points to a “people first” response to the challenges of Covid with much greater priority placed on tenant support, community engagement and supporting vulnerable households.

From a property perspective it shows a renewed sense of purpose in investing in existing stock, not least to meet more stringent building safety standards, meaning more emphasis on existing asset management.

With Covid tempering the appetite for risk and financial capacity in the sector, it also shows a desire to take more direct responsibility for delivering new homes for those most in need.

But with the government keen to promote its First Homes policy and support other forms of low cost home ownership, it is also a sector which faces significant competition for the financial resources at its disposal.

That financial competition is compounded by the cost of ensuring all homes progressively meet increasing higher levels of environmental efficiency.

We have looked at all of these issues in the presentation given by Lucian Cook and Helen Collins at Housing 2020 which you can view below.
