Savills Announces the Appointment of Ruth Fischer as President, Canada

Fischer will have oversight of Savills offices in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton, and will play a significant role in the firm’s expansion in Canada

Toronto, ON – [April, 15 2024] – Savills today announced the appointment of Ruth Fischer as President, Canada. Fischer brings over two decades of commercial real estate experience to Savills and offers a deep understanding of the Canadian market.

As President, Canada, Fischer will have responsibility for all aspects of Savills Canadian business, including its current offices in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Edmonton, future markets, and current and future service lines.

Fischer’s career is marked by a track record of building strong client and colleague relationships. Her wide-ranging expertise in brokerage, urban planning, client diagnostics, portfolio, and workplace strategy will be instrumental in propelling the firm’s Canadian business forward.

Fischer joins Savills from CBRE, where she served as Managing Director of its operations in Quebec and led brokerage activities across Montreal, Saint-Laurent, and Quebec City. Fischer's appointment is effective April 15, and she will be based out of Savills Toronto office.

“By tapping Ruth to lead Savills Canadian operations, we’re underscoring our commitment to solidifying and significantly expanding the firm’s presence and services in this strategic North American market,” said David Lipson, CEO of Savills North America. “Hiring a Canada leader, to be based in Toronto, the country’s largest market, is a foundational step toward growth. With Ruth now on board, we are going to capitalize on the opportunity to build a diversified, scaled, and differentiated business in the country.”

After establishing a Toronto outpost in 2015, Savills expanded its Canadian operations to Calgary, Edmonton and, most recently, Montreal. Fischer will assist in fortifying the firm’s presence in those markets.

“I am excited about this career-defining opportunity: a chance to lead and expand Savills across Canada. Hiring a Canadian president represents a significant milestone as Canada's diverse landscapes and vibrant communities present immense potential. I am looking forward to working closely with our leadership team, local professionals and our clients on what will be an exciting journey of strategic growth, collaboration, and success as we build a stronger presence and enhance our service offerings from coast to coast.”

With an undergraduate in urban planning from Cornell University, her international career began in urban planning in Boston, Massachusetts, before relocating to the UK for graduate school at the London School of Economics. She remained in London as a real estate analyst covering markets across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Since moving to Canada in 2010, Fischer has contributed significantly to CBRE, notably founding the Canadian Client Solutions team and launching the Canadian Client Care program.

In addition to her professional achievements, Fischer has also made significant contributions to the broader community and industry. In 2020, she was honored with the CBRE Canadian National Award of Distinction, recognizing her impactful contributions to the national firm's success. In 2018, she was awarded CBRE’s Most Valuable Partner award, a North American-wide recognition of non-commissioned professionals for their contributions in assisting producers to win business and deliver exceptional client outcomes. While at CBRE, she played a leading role in its Women’s Network; advanced industry outreach and thought leadership; co-chaired the Urban Land Institute Toronto’s Sponsorship Committee; and served as a board member for the Children's Book Bank in Toronto and the FIMJ in Montreal.
