Why is Berlin the winning choice for sports brands?

Berlin's appeal to international sporting brands extends beyond its market size and excellent connectivity; the German capital cultivates an environment of constant innovation, positioning it as a prime location for new retail and leisure concepts seeking to establish a foothold in the country and expand their presence in Europe.

Skateboarding enthusiasts quickly recognised the vast concrete runways at Tempelhofer Feld as a haven for their sport. It's a testament to Berlin's unique blend of history, innovation, and community spirit that continues to draw people from all walks of life to this iconic location. Equally, Hackescher Markt remains a hot spot for small shops offering designer shops and clothes/shoe shops. In this dynamic landscape, brands can leverage Berlin's creative pulse to not only expand their presence in Germany but also to shape their global image as pioneers of innovation and style.

Neue Schönhauser Street in Berlin Mitte has witnessed notable openings. Among these, the entrance of the Swiss sportswear brand On into the German market stands out, as it actively engaged with the local audience through on-site workouts and weekly running groups. Furthermore, adding to Berlin's allure as a sports destination, Swedish streetwear brand Axel Arigato inaugurated its latest flagship store in the city, strategically choosing it for expansion following successful ventures in London and Paris.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Fanatics has opened its first NBA store in Germany in Berlin. The new store, operated by retail giant Lids and located at Alte Potsdamer Str. in The Playce at Potsdamer Platz, is the NBA’s fourth and largest in Europe, joining London, Milan and Paris.

Similarly, we are starting to see German brands wanting to get their share of the Berlin market. One such example is Kickz Berlin, which was founded in Munich in 1993 and focused on basketball and sneaker culture. Today, the company operates a total of five stores in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. Last year, Kickz opened a 6,000 sq ft space, its largest store to date, in Berlin's Ku'damm.

As the locals would say, ‘dit is Berlin’, that’s Berlin for you.
