Historic Copenhagen property changes hands

Image treatment

We have acted as sell-side advisor on the sale of one of Copenhagen's very prominent commercial properties "Pressens Hus" at Skindergade 5-7.

The distinctive property has been sold to Restaurations Kompagniet A/S, ReKom, that wants to continue operations of the property.

For more than twenty years, the property has housed the employer association Danske Mediers Arbejdsgiverforening and other independent associations, but now the property is ready to welcome a completely different type of owner.

ReKom is expanding rapidly in the city centre and there is no doubt that the buyer is the exactly right profile.

Mikkel Andersen, partner

The property consists of two buildings, one of which is the youngest listed building in Denmark and accordingly among the most significant properties in Copenhagen. The distinctive property has enormous development potential, and we are confident that Rekom are the right people to fulfil this potential.

It has been an extremely exciting but also challenging process for all parties involved. I am delighted that ReKom made the transaction possible, and I am confident that they will bring new life to the building, but with respect for the spirit and history of the building, which is important to us.

Thomas Rønnow, Deputy CEO and lawyer at Danske Mediers Arbejdsgiverforening

Colloquially, the property is known as House of the Press (Pressens Hus). A beautiful and prominent property with an abundance of original details and a location in one of the most charming neighbourhoods of Copenhagen.

A few meters from the property are the popular squares Gråbrødretorv and Kultorvet and the high street Købmagergade, all of which in recent years have seen an increasing demand from international investors exploring the market for residential, office and retail properties. The effect of the increased interest is seen in larger flourishing of the side streets, including Skindergade, which with its authentic atmosphere depicts Copenhagen in a historical and preservation-worthy perspective.

We have experienced great interest in the property from both national and international investors, which was also our expectations for the case. A property of this class, which represents a significant development potential, is a rarity and the sales process was quick and smooth.

Mikkel Andersen emphasises in connection with the deal:

- We succeeded in selling the property to an owner who wants to use the property for themselves. In most cases, a property like this would be sold to an investor, but it was important for us to find the right match. The sale demonstrates that our strong presence in the city centre gives us some clear pointers in our search for the right buyer profile.

The property was offered in the open market in a traditional all-cash transaction, and it did not take long before ReKom showed great commitment.

- It is an extremely interesting and sought-after property where location, quality and potential come together, which this transaction confirms, says Mikkel Andersen.

We have experienced significant growth in recent years, by which we have gained a strong foothold in Copenhagen city centre. With our strong position in purchase and sale of investment properties, we expect an exciting year ahead with more significant transactions.
